Notes on Maastricht, NL - Photos
If you want to get the real spirit of one country, avoid visiting its capital, or the city that its more known for. Travel to those quite, rural, small cities big on culture where the soul of the nation is preserved. These heartwarming little cities where the air is fresher, grass is greener and all colors are brighter will give you unforgettable harmony and real taste of the culture. Maastricht, the capital of Netherlands Limburg province is no exception.

1. The Vrijthof is a square in the centre of Maastricht. The square is known for its many monuments, including 'Twin Churches', various cafe terraces and these extraordinary trees
2. Maastricht is located on both sides of the Maas river with an ancient Roman bridge over it
3. There are 1.5 bikes per person in the Netherlands. Maastricht is no exception
4. Spring is the best time to visit this beautiful city - get your jogging shoes on, enjoy the fresh air, beautiful blossoms
5. Maastricht has around 1677 national heritage sites, which is the second highest amount in a Dutch town, after Amsterdam
7. Narrow, quite streets reminded me of Icheri Sheher - my favorite part of Baku
9. If I say that the Dutch cuisine is good - I would be a huge liar. Even though I did not enjoy food here, butterballen - traditional Dutch food is one of the "must-try"s.
10. Small shops with authentic souvenirs, small open air cafes, and smiling people in the city centre is something that all cosmopolitan cities miss
